Easter 2024 (2): Christ Crucified

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
– 1 Corinthians 1:25 ESV‬‬

The context of this verse is about the Crucifixion of Christ (see verse 23). Paul was contrasting the “foolishness” of the cross against the “wisdom” of men.

Like many modern atheists, the Greeks (representing the Gentiles) pride themselves on their intellect and wisdom. They believe they could figure out everything in the world through their own reasoning.

Thus God used the cross to shatter their pride.

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
– 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 ESV‬‬

The Greeks, for all their earthly wisdom, cannot comprehend the cross.

How can God become a Man?“… “How can a Man save the world by dying a shameful death?“… “How can a Man be raised from the dead?“… “What is the meaning of all these?“…

But just because it is incomprehensible to the human mind does not mean the Christian faith is illogical or unintellectual. In fact, it means the Christian faith is more logical and more intellectual than any man-made philosophy.

(I did not plan to write any Easter or Resurrection Day post. Now I have written two.)
