Mark my words: The Rapture will not take place on September 23 2017.
Since last year, I have heard of many “prophecies” about 23-09-17 as the Day of Rapture. Apparently, there will be some movement of the stars in constellation Virgo on that day and it is supposed to be the Sign of the Woman in Revelation 12.
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.
According to the “Constellation Virgo Theory” (as I called it), the woman represents constellation Virgo, the garland of twelve stars represents constellation Leo, the moon is considered to be at the feet of Virgo due to it’s position and sun is said to clothed the woman when it passes through the constellation.
It would have been quite a neat theory if one does not care too much about what the Bible actually says, but the text clearly does not support this absurd idea.
And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
First of all, contrary to what many people believe, “sign in heaven” does not have to mean the stars in the sky. The red dragon, identified as the devil in verse 9, is also described as a sign in heaven, but obviously he is not a constellation.
Lest we forget that the Book of Revelation is a vision of John, and most of what of he saw are not literal. So just because he saw “a sign appearing in heaven” does not (necessarily) mean we will also see a sign in the sky. Eg the Antichrist is described as a beast with 7 heads and 10 horns, but obviously he is not going to look like that (I hope!).
Granted. There is a possibility that it could really be a sign in the sky, but I believe it will a sign that could be seen by naked eye on earth and not something that only those with telescope can see.
Secondly, how is a group of stars able to give birth to a Child who is to “rule all nations with a rod of iron”? And why is the dragon so eager to devour the Child? Is it because He poses a threat to the dragon?
I think the Child is an obvious reference to our Lord Jesus Christ, and that means the woman cannot be constellation Virgo, as He was born of a real human virgin, not a metaphorical virgin of made up of stars.
And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Then in verse 17, it is written that Christians are the woman’s other offspring. Again, if the woman is constellation Virgo, how can Christians be called her offspring?
Personally, I believe the woman represents the nation Israel. The twelve stars on her garland are the 12 tribes. She can be said to “give birth” to Jesus Christ as He was born as a Jew in Israel, and it will perfectly explain why the dragon (or devil) continues to persecute her through the ages.
