True Lies

And he (the serpent) said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
(Genesis 3:1-4)

Satan is called a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), which means he speaks no truth and he has no truth in him.

But he is too crafty to tell outright lies.

He does speak the truth… at times when it suits him. In fact he can even quote Bible verses if need be (Matthew 4). But whatever truth he may be telling, it will always be mixed with lies and this has been his primary strategy ever since Eden.

Thus, just because some teachings talk about God, mention Jesus or quote Bible verses does not mean they are true Christian teachings. They might sound biblical to the untrained ears but they are really new age at their core, telling us we can also be like God if only we know the “secret” to unlock the “divine powers” laying dormant inside all of us (sounds familiar?).

So read the Bible, listen to your pastor, learn the right doctrines and you will be better equipped to discern the truth from falsehood.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
(1 John 4:1)
