In this post, I am going to talk about 2 very prominent beasts mentioned in the Bible and how they are related to the “prince” of the 70 Weeks Prophecy.
First, let’s look Daniel’s Vision of the Four Beasts in Daniel 7 (take note of those things I have highlighted):
I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’
After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.
… and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.
Then someone in the same vision, presumably an angel, went on to explain the meaning of the four beasts to Daniel (I shall skip the first 3 and go straight to the 4th as it was the one that Daniel was most interested in):
Those great beasts, which are four, are four kings which arise out of the earth. But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.
… the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days (Second Coming of Christ. See Dan 7:13-14) came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.
Horn always represent an evil king in the Bible (see Revelation 17). The “same horn” above is referring to the “little horn” in verses 7-8.
So from the above passage, we know there is a king who will emerge from the kingdom of the 4th beast and make war with the saints (believers) until the time Christ makes His return.
Next, the angel gave us more details about the 4th beast and that little horn:
The fourth beast shall be
A fourth kingdom on earth,
Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,
And shall devour the whole earth,
Trample it and break it in pieces.
The ten horns are ten kings
Who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them;
He shall be different from the first ones,
And shall subdue three kings.
He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.
(There was some confusion for me when the 4th beast is said to be a king in earlier verses, but here he becomes a kingdom. But I agree with my friend who said it just mean the kingdom is led by the king who is represented by the 4th beast.)
As we can see from the last 2 lines, the saints will be given into hands of the little horn for 3.5 years (“a time and times and half a time”).
If you recall from my last post about the 70 Weeks Prophecy, it says the prince will bring an end to sacrifices and set up the abomination of desolation in the middle of the final week, which means his war against Israel will last 3.5 years (from midweek) till the end of the week when Christ comes back again. Sounds familiar?
It gets even more interesting when you read the description of the 666 Beast in Revelation:
Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion.
And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.
For a while, I was really convinced that the 4th beast is the 666 Beast. After all, both of them came up from the sea and both have ten horns, but my friend pointed out to me the 666 Beast is actually the “little horn” of the 4th beast.
Let’s take a look:
- The little horn “shall speak pompous words against the Most High“. The 666 Beast “opened his mouth in blasphemy against God“.
- The little horn “shall persecute the saints of the Most High” and “the saints shall be given into his hand“. The 666 Beast will “make war with the saints and to overcome them“.
- The little horn will prevail against the saints for “a time and times and half a time (3.5 years). The 666 Beast is “given authority to continue for forty-two months (3.5 years)
Need I say more?
So while the 4th beast is not the 666 Beast, we can safely conclude that the latter will be someone from the kingdom of the former.
And is the horn aka the 666 Beast also the “prince” of the 70 Weeks Prophecy? Most likely.
*Take note, in Revelation, it is actually a second Beast aka the False Prophet who will set up the abomination of desolation, an image of the 666 Beast. But it is not a big problem, as the second Beast is acting on the authority given by the former.*
A more cartoonish representation of the 4 terrible beasts.
