Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
(1 John 2:18)
Unbelievers may not be familiar with the stories of Jesus, Moses or David, but many of them sure know about Antichrist, and the number of 666 (no thanks to Hollywood’s), and most people (including some Christians) think there will only be one ultimate Antichrist, but as we can see, many antichrists had already made their appearances during Apostle John’s time.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
(1 John 2:19)
Apparently, they were actually people who professed to be “Christians”, but never really believe in the Gospel or was trying to pervert the it (most likely the Gnostics).
So how do we identify an antichrist?
Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
(1 John 2:22-23)
While there are other religions, cults or New Age philosophies that professed to believe in a Supreme Deity (however they define it), only Christianity acknowledges that Jesus is God.
By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
(1 John 4:2-3)
Anytime we hear a doctrine that either deny Jesus’ divinity or His redemptive work on the Cross, we know it is not of Christianity, even if they can talk about God the whole day long, and even quote a few verses from the Bible.
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
(1 John 2:20-21)
Thank God that as believers today, we have the Holy Spirit who will guide us in all truths, and surely we have been equipped to discern between truth and fables.
Yeshua is the Lord and King.
