After what seems like eternity, Manchester United has finally beaten Liverpool again!!
It wasn’t a classic, to be honest. Both teams spent most of their time chasing the ball in midfield without really threatening the keepers of either side. While there were 2 goals scored within first 15 mins, it was really down to poor defensive play rather than good attacking moves.
My heart sank to my ankles when Torres were left all alone to score with a free header in the 5th minute, a grim reminder that embrassing loss last season. Fortunately, Rooney came to the rescue (once again), scoring his 33rd goal of the season off the rebound of his saved penalty. And just when I thought the match would remain a stalemate, Park Ji Sung scored the winner off a lovely Fletcher cross to help us beat Liverpool for the 1st time in 2 seasons.
A special mention must be reserved for Park . While the pre-match talks were all about Rooney and Torres, it was the tireless Korean winger who stole the limelights with his industrious play and courageous goal. If we manage to get into the Champions League final again, IMO, he would deserved another starting berth.
Park, after his goal
Another player worth mentioning must be Darren Fletcher. What can I say? He is turning out to be a world class midfielder. While not the biggest in stature, he managed to out-ran, out-muscled both Gerrad and Mascherano from time to time, winning balls and breaking up opponent’s play. I dare say, after Rooney, he would be another key player in United’s quest for EPL and European glory.
Have we found our new “Keano”?
